Frank Patania Sr. (1899–1964) was an influential Italian-American silversmith and jeweler best known for blending Native American design traditions with modernist and Mediterranean styles. After training in New York, he moved to Santa Fe in the 1920s, where he founded the Thunderbird Shop, later expanding to Tucson. Patania worked closely with skilled Native American artisans, creating bold, high-quality silver and turquoise jewelry that became highly collectible. His craftsmanship and mentorship helped shape Southwestern jewelry into a respected art form, and pieces bearing his hallmark remain prized by collectors today.
